Handwritten note found on easyJet plane sparked 'suspicious package' search at Glasgow airport

A security incident was declared at Glasgow Airport after handwritten message was found onboard an EasyJet flight.

All flights to and from the terminal were suspended at 10.25am on Tuesday morning after officers descended on a flight from Gatwick Airport.

Crew on board the EasyJet flight EZY883 raised the alarm amid reports of a 'suspicious package'.

Detectives confirmed a search took place but officers found nothing suspicious onboard and the passengers from the aircraft were spoken to and released.

A note was found within the plane during the flight which prompted the pilot to contact security, the Scotsman reports.

More than 140 passengers were on the flight from London.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "All the passengers and crew members have disembarked from a plane which was searched by police following a security alert reported by the crew of a flight at Glasgow Airport.

"The plane has been searched with a negative result and nothing has been found.

"All passengers from the affected flight have been spoken to by officers and able to continue their journeys.

"The circumstances surrounding the nature of the security alert will continue to be investigated."

An easyJet spokeswoman said: "EasyJet can confirm that passengers on flight EZY883 from London Gatwick to Glasgow were delayed disembarking on arrival in Glasgow, purely as a precaution, due to additional security checks.

"The passengers have been disembarked and taken into the terminal.

"The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their understanding."

A Glasgow Airport spokesman said: "At 10.25am, emergency services attended an arriving easyJet flight from Gatwick following reports of a security alert on board.

"Operations were temporarily suspended until the incident was stood down and normal operations resumed after 22 minutes."
