Hand sanitiser Ireland: Cork company produces new product in bid to combat coronavirus spread

A Cork company is playing their part in the coronavirus battle as they're set to deliver millions of hand sanitiser units starting this week.

Cosmetic Creations, who have a base in the City North Business Park, will be rolling out 80,000 units of their new sanitiser 'Airmedica' every week.

The sanitiser will be given available to the public and businesses and its 90 employees have been working extremely hard to produce the huge volume in time, CorkBeo reports.

The demand comes as the number of cases in Ireland has jumped to 17 - 13 in the republic and three in the north.

It was confirmed last night that one of those cases is in Cork - and the infeccted person had not travelled to any affected regions.

HSE chief executive Paul Reid last night said the health service are planning for all eventualities.

“From what we are learning, however, as we see how the virus spreads in countries across Europe and in the UK, we are facing a potentially unprecedented situation in this country and across all of our health services.

“So we must continue to be vigilant and practise good infection prevention and control measures, to protect ourselves, our patients, and our colleagues.”

The worldwide spread has resulted in a huge demand for supplies such as face-masks and sanitisers.

CEO Aiden Corcoran said they are "fortunate enough to have an agile team" and that that they're expanding production quickly.

He said: “We have been contacted by both the public and private sectors, to deliver a high volume of hand sanitisers with a short turnaround time. Following recent investment in our Cork campus, we have expanded our capacity, and are working to meet this immediate need.

“We are fortunate to have an agile team, who have been hard at work, formulating and testing this product and ensuring we have the resources to manufacture and distribute, nationally and internationally.”
