Hamza Choudhury to Newcastle United transfer issue highlighted by former star

Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury has emerged as a potential option for Steve Bruce, as he looks to further strengthen Newcastle's midfield following the arrival of Joe Willock.

Former Newcastle centre-back Steve Howey has now given his view on the links with Choudhury and posed an important transfer question.

“He is a decent player but the question is whether he will play week in, week out," Howey told Football FanCast.

The club are in need of reinforcements who can lift the overall level of the side, rather than simply provide depth, which seems to be Howey's concern.

He continued: “If the manager feels as though he would come into the team and contribute really well then, of course, it’s an option.”

Choudhury played only 313 minutes across 10 appearances in the Premier League for Leicester last season, so the midfielder is seeking regular minutes in any move that he would make.

Still only 23, if he was to sign he would join Willock in bringing a bit of a refresh to Newcastle's midfield. Willock is currently the only new signing at St James' Park this window, which has disappointed some fans due to not being perceived as a true strengthening of the squad given that the ex-Arsenal man was on loan last season.

Whilst Willock was brought in for his goal-scoring ability, Choudhury is a target to add physical presence in the midfield as well as an ability to retain the ball a bit better through his passing.
