Hampstead Heath pond being searched for missing man feared drowned

The men's pond at Hampstead Heath is reportedly being searched for a missing man this afternoon who is feared to have drowned.

Police closed the Men's Bathing Pond at 4.25pm after reports of a bather going missing.

Shortly after 5pm it was confirmed that the pond in north London would be closed for the rest of the day.

Police officers at the scene have reportedly said the activity is due to a missing person.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 4.25pm to reports of a man’s clothing found on the bank of the men’s bathing pond at Hampstead Heath.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) are on scene and dealing.

 "Enquires continue."

The missing man is thought to be in his 30s, according to The Sun.

Men and women are strictly only allowed to use their own bathing ponds at Hampstead Heath, which was teeming today with sunseekers enjoying the warmest day of the year so far.

The Met Office confirmed that a temperature of 26.2C was recorded in Heathrow early this afternoon.

The mercury could still reach 28C on Saturday, while highs of 29C or even 30C are forecast for Sunday, the Met Office said.
