Hampstead flat with 1.5m bedroom ceiling on market for £300k

Affording the property might be a stretch for some - but the bedroom would be more of a bend

A studio flat has gone on sale for £300,000 in Hampstead, with a potential catch being a bedroom ceiling that is low enough to be a pain in the neck, or the back.

The one-bedroom apartment is otherwise unremarkable in price or scale within the north London market, except for its “raised sleeping area” which an occupant would need to climb a ladder to access.

Estate agent Dexters said the property’s “split level first floor” has a ceiling height of just over 1.5 metres (5ft). With a 1.89 x 3.23m diameter, it would not be a space to do much other than store a double bed — although the flat’s bathroom and living room area are a more standard size.

“The flat enjoys a raised sleeping area and a fully fitted kitchen,” an advertising statement reads.

“Set on the lower slopes of Hampstead, the studio is a moment's stroll away from Finchley Road and Frognal Overground, Finchley Road Tube station and the bustling 02 Centre.

“Hampstead Village, with all its excellent amenities, is also within walking distance.”

There is a garden area which can be shared with other residents of the block.

The flat’s advertisement represents the continuation of a trend of tiny accommodation options being made available. In February, a seven square metre property in Lower Clapton went on the market for £50,000.

The Hampstead flat was being let for £1,000 a month but is now on the market to buy for a price that exceeds the UK average of £270,000 for a property by £30,000.

Dexters has been approached for further comment.
