Hampden Park hero Amber Barrett seals switch to Standard Liege ahead of World Cup

Ireland striker Amber Barrett has made a big move ahead of the World Cup - by joining Belgian Cup winners Standard Liege.

The Donegal native will arrive at her new club after Ireland’s campaign in Australia, which kicks off against the co-hosts in Sydney on July 20.

Barrett spent four seasons in Germany, first with Koln and then with Turbine Potsdam, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.

“Absolutely thrilled to have joined this historic club,” she tweeted on Tuesday.

Standard Liege finished third in the Belgian top-tier last season and won the cup.

First up for Barrett is the matter of making Vera Pauw’s final 23-player squad for the World Cup.

The Hampden Park hero - and former Peamount striker - has been included in a 31-strong training squad ahead of friendlies against Zambia on June 22 and France on July 6.
