Hampden could stage MORE Euro 2020 games as Boris Johnson makes hosting offer to UEFA

Scotland could end up hosting more Euro 2020 games after Boris Johnson offered to play extra European Championship fixtures in the UK this summer.

The Championships were postponed due to the onset of the pandemic last year and were put back to this summer with 12 countries hosting the games.

These plans have come under close scrutiny amid the spread of new strains of Covid and the now the UK Prime Minister has stepped in with the offer to take the on more hosting duties if necessary.

Johnson told The Sun : "We are hosting the Euros. We are hosting the semis and the final.

"If there’s, you know, if they want any other matches that they want hosted, we’re certainly on for that but at the moment that’s where we are with UEFA."

Hampden is set to host four matches, three group-stage fixtures including Scotland's clashes with Czech Republic and Croatia, as well as a last-16 clash.

Rumours have been swirling since business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said cryptically on Tuesday: "We’d be very happy to see a significant football tournament come back to Britain."

Pushed specifically on the Euros he told Sky: "It’s March 2 now, I don’t want to run ahead of ourselves."
