Hammerson's Cabot Circus shopping centre to reopen non-essential shops

Non-essential businesses based in a major shopping centre in Bristol are set to reopen on Monday, June 15.

Cabot Circus, which is owned by property giant Hammerson, said it will reopen in line with the latest guidance from the Government.

While retailers will be welcoming shoppers back, restaurants will only be open for takeaway and delivery, the shopping centre said.

During lockdown Cabot's essential stores have remained open, including banks and health food shop Holland & Barrett.

Independent inspection organisation Bureau Veritas was appointed to analyse and approve the reopening plans of all of Hammerson’s flagship destinations, including Cabot Circus.

A range of safety measures have been put in place including:

  • Clear signs throughout the centre reminding visitors of social distancing guidance and to avoid shopping in large groups

  • Using the centre’s communication channels including social media, digital in-mall displays and tannoy announcements to remind visitors about how to stay safe

  • Enhanced cleaning processes, with a clear focus on key customer touch points

  • Live monitoring of footfall to ensure there aren’t too many people in the centre at any one time

  • Introduction of queuing outside the destination when required to manage capacity

  • Installation of fixed hand sanitiser stations throughout the destination

  • All customer-facing centre staff will wear protective clothing

  • Customers will be encouraged to use contactless payment with retailers for transactions

The shopping centre car park will be open but shoppers are being advised to check Cabot Circus’ website before they visit if they wish to use the centre's services, as some may not be available.

Lisa Jones, technical services manager at Cabot Circus, said: “It has been a really challenging time for everyone, and we are hugely grateful to the key workers that have done so much over the past few months.

"At Cabot Circus, we’re working really hard to make sure we can re-open on 15 June, and that we can do so safely. We ask that people be patient with us though, as the way we shop is going to be different for a while, and visits might take longer than usual. We can’t wait to re-open, and to welcome back our customers.”

Mark Bourgeois, managing director UK & Ireland at Hammerson, added: “Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of all of our customers, retailers and colleagues. We have considered carefully how to create an operating environment that allows the centre and brands to reopen safely."

Shops and restaurants reopening at Cabot Circus

Below is a list of shops and restaurants in Cabot Circus that will be open on Monday June 15.

Cabot Circus said the list is "subject to changes" and is asking customers to keep updated via its website. For individual opening times the shopping centre is advising people to check retailers' websites.
