Hammer attack on car at beauty spot sparks police appeal

A fight at a beauty spot involving a hammer has prompted police to issue an appeal.

The altercation happened on Rivington Lane in Rivington at 2.30pm on Sunday (January 10).

Police say the fight between two groups resulted in a car being severely damaged with a hammer.

Officers say a black Vauxhall Corsa was also driven dangerously by a man in the car park.

It collided with several other cars before fleeing the scene.

Police are now asking anyone with any information to get in touch.

In a post, Chorley Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses regarding an incident that occurred on Rivington Lane (leading to the barn) yesterday at 2.30pm.

“Two groups of people were involved in an altercation which resulted in extensive damage to a car with the use of a hammer.

“Another car believed to be a black Vauxhall Corsa was driven dangerously by a male within the car park where it collided with several other cars before fleeing the scene.

“We are keen to trace any witnesses or any people who may have CCTV, dash cam or mobile footage of the incident. If so please email 2120@lancashire.police.uk.

“Lastly, we would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and isn't the type of incident we are used to seeing in the Rivington area.”
