Hammer attack in Glasgow city centre as police appeal for man named Oscar

Police have launched an appeal to trace a man named Oscar after a hammer attack in Glasgow city centre.

Yesterday afternoon officers were called to Argyle Street when a brawl erupted between three men.

Police witnessed one of the men, believed to be called Oscar, being struck by a hammer. However, he left the scene without seeking medical help.

Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the fight or knows the identity of Oscar to contact them.

A Police Scotland statement says: "We are seeking assistance following what appears to have been an assault in Argyle Street yesterday afternoon.

"Around 3.40pm yesterday, Wednesday, in an altercation in Argyle Street between three men, one man was observed to have been struck with a hammer.

"The man who was struck, who gave his name only as Oscar to bystanders, left the scene without seeking assistance, and has not yet been traced.

"Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or indeed know the identity of Oscar, is asked to call us on the 101 number quoting the reference number CR: AC02460620.

"We would also welcome a call from the man himself who was struck with the hammer."
