Hammarby director confirms Arsenal in talks to sign striker ahead of summer transfer window

Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson has confirmed that Arsenal are among a number of clubs in talks to sign teenage striker Emil Roback.

The 16-year-old forward has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich, with Jansson admitting that the Swedish club face a battle to hold onto the highly-rated teen after both sides have opened discussions.

“We were contacted and know about the interest," he told Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt, via Sport Witness.

"He has also met Arsenal. There’s a strong interest and there are more clubs as well.

The crucial signings Arsenal should make

"He’s also been to Arsenal. Yes, I understand the interest. He is a forward with a great physique and speed and already a skilled goalscorer.”

Asked if Hammarby have been contacted directly from both clubs, he said: “Yes, we have.”

Arsenal, who are currently on lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak, have already tasted similar success with the signing of Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian arrived from Ituano FC last summer as an unknown talent but has proved to be an astute signing, scoring 10 goals in his debut season in England.

Mikael Hjelmberg, a scout for the Swedish side, praised Roback’s qualities ahead of a potential move to England or Germany.

”Emil is a forward with very good physique.

"He has an extreme speed, and is a natural scorer.”
