A man who attacked a neighbour and later hurled abuse at a witness has been jailed for 11 months.
Aaron Dawson, 31, admitted striking the man with a metal bike lock on Hamilton's Hillhouse Road on September 8, 2018.
An allegation that his victim suffered severe injury and permanent disfigurement was deleted from the charge.
A jury found Dawson guilty of breaching bail conditions by shouting and swearing at a female witness in the case, in Fleming Way, Hamilton, on July 16, 2019
He was also convicted of brandishing a hammer, shouting abuse and making threats on that occasion.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that police were told about a fight in the street.
Officers followed a trail of blood to the door of Dawson's flat in Fleming Way.
They forced entry and found him sitting injured on the living room floor, trying to hide behind a sofa.
There was blood on his lips, a tooth was chipped and his elbow was grazed.
The officers noted that he was under the influence of alcohol.
They asked what had happened and Dawson said his upstairs neighbour had got out of a delivery van and attacked him.
Asked if weapons had been used, he insisted it was "just a fist fight".
However, dash cam footage from a car showed that wasn't the case, and a bike lock was found on Dawson's kitchen floor.
Charged with assault, Dawson insisted 'He attacked me first'.
Dawson also admitted assaulting another man in an unrelated incident while on bail.
Defence agent Jim O'Dowd said alcohol was an issue for his client who realised it is "something he should avoid".
The lawyer added: "He is in full time employment and I would ask that consideration be given to a non-custodial sentence."
But Sheriff Colin Dunipace said the charges were serious and only prison was appropriate.
