Hamilton tattoo artist pens quirky Tiger King design in aid of animal charity

A Hamilton tattoo artist has penned a quirky Tiger King tattoo on a customer in aid of charity.

Billy Taylor, of Cherry Pie Tattoo and Piercing in Hamilton, made a plea on the shop’s Facebook page for the first person to donate £50 to the SSPCA Animal Rescue Centre in Hamilton and they would receive the tattoo for free.

And he was delighted when a customer stepped forward and paid the money to the charity, in turn agreeing to be Billy’s canvas.

True to his word Billy, who has worked at the Hamilton shop for the last six years, recently tattooed the image of Netflix sensation ‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic with his arch nemesis big cat activist Carole Baskin draped in a tiger costume and on a leash.

Talented artist Billy told the Advertiser: “Every year at Cherry Pie we try to do something fun for the SSPCA charity and this year I came up with the idea of the Tiger King tattoo after seeing the original image on the Bewaresparks Facebook page as I thought it looked great and knew it would be snapped up quick.

“The customer who donated the money is a huge fan of Tiger King and scooped up the deal. In fact he said it was the best £50 he has ever spent!”

The tattoo took Billy, who also paints draws, designs tshirts and does print making,  two hours to complete on the customers thigh.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is a 2020 true crime Netflix documentary that explores big cat breeding and its bizarre underworld, populated by eccentric characters including Joe Exotic and rival Carole Baskin.

As detailed in the show Exotic is now serving 22 years for a murder for hire plot against fellow zoo owner Baskin as well as several wildlife violations.
