Hamilton takeaway backs boxer Jordan Grant with special pizza deal for charity

A Hamilton takeaway will feature on the shorts of local boxer Jordan Grant in his bout with Tommy Fury tonight (Saturday).

Mr Spice jumped at the chance to sponsor the former Hamilton Grammar pupil who has the whole of Lanarkshire behind him when he enters the ring against the former Love Island star.

As a special promotion, the eatery is selling Jordan's favourite pizza this weekend named 'The Game' after Jordan's nickname.

The pizza costs £5 and all proceeds from the deal go straight to Eddlewood Community Action Group.

It's made up of chicken tikka, onions, green peppers and jalapeños as Mr Spice owner Qasim Rafiq urges Lanarkshire to support local talent and give to local causes.

Jordan's black and gold shorts will feature all his sponsors including the Hamilton takeaway when he battles two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's brother live on BT Sport.

Qasim told Lanarkshire Live : “We’ve been open a year now and Jordan came in and out to try out our food.

“We immediately agreed to his sponsorship because it’s important to support local talent. We’ve already tried to help the local community as well so it’s something that’s always came second nature to us.

“There’s been a lot of families over the past year who have struggled to get a hot meal. We feel if you’re ever in a position to help, it should be your duty to do so."

The promotion came after Mr Spice celebrated a year in business. For the occasion, they decided to provide free meals to those less fortunate.

It's a cause Qasim has been dedicated to throughout the pandemic.

“Jordan wanted to do something special and we knew the fight was in the pipeline", he added.

“Tommy Fury is a big name even though he’s only had five fights.

“We brought out ‘The Game’ pizza leading up to the fight and we’re proud to have Mr Spice on his shorts come Saturday.

“Because Jordan is an Eddlewood boy we thought it would make sense to give all the proceeds from the offer to the Eddlewood Action Group.

“It’s a good platform for us but it’s a great opportunity for Jordan to go down and show his skills. Everyone around here is routing for him."

The pizza deal has proved popular with locals already and up to 50 orders were made for it on Thursday alone.

The fight at the Telford International Centre in Shropshire will have 1000 spectators in attendance and will be shown on BT Sport at 7pm.

The 23-year-old is keen to make a name for himself and is confident of causing an upset.

And his sponsor Qasim agrees, adding: “I’ve got every faith in Jordan, I feel he can do it, he’s got the heart of a lion and I’m sure he’s going to be triumphant.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for everyone on Saturday night so make sure we all watch the fight.

"I’m absolutely buzzing for it."
