Hamilton 2 Livingston 1 as Accies record first win in six thanks to late penalty

Hamilton grabbed their first win in six games after Ross Cunningham's late penalty was enough to see off Livingston 2-1 at New Douglas Park on Saturday.

Accies last beat Livingston on November 3, with a goal from now-departed Mason Bloomield, and for long spells of this game that record looked like it was going to continue.

In inauspicious first half ended level after Blair Alston cancelled out Alan Lithgow's opener for the Lions.

The second half saw play rage from end to end, with Cunningham's penalty the difference.

Hamilton head coach Brian Rice made two changes to the side that drew at St Mirren last week, with Ronan Hughes and Steven Davies in for Will Collar and suspended George Oakley.

Gary Holt made four changes to the Livingston side that lost in midweek to Rangers, with Ross Stewart resuming his place in goal as Matija Sarkic returned to the bench. Alan Lithgow, Jack Stobbs and Scott Robinson came in for Jack McMillan, Keaghan Jacobs and Lyndon Dykes.

Hamilton started well and inside 90 seconds Marios Ogkmpoe knocked a high ball down for Alston, who ran at the Livi defence but sliced his shot wide of the left post.

Livingston took the lead in 15 minutes when Aymen Souda's free kick on the right was curled into the box and Lithgow met it with a bullet header that left Owain Fon-Williams with no chance.

Accies tried to get back into the game and in 27 minutes Alston's free kick from the right was headed across goal by Aaron McGowan, but cleared for a corner. Alston's set-piece was met well by Ogkmpoe's header, but it slipped past the left post, just too far ahead of Lewis Smith, sliding in.

Five minutes later McGowan found Smith on the right and he ran infield a bit before trying his luck with a rising drive, but Ross Stewart held it at the right post corner.

Hamilton's defence let Souda weave his way into the box in 40 minute and he rode a few challenges, but seemed to run out of steam n the end and his low shot was comfortably taken by Fon-Williams.

Accies levelled inside first-half stoppage time when Alex Gogic's long throw-in from the left was flicked on by Davies and Alston finished from close range for his second goal of the season.

Jack Stobbs tried his luck with am ambitious effort from wide on the right touchline in 50 minutes, but it landed on the roof of the net.

Accies were maybe given a let-off in 74 minutes when Scott McMann appeared to pull Scott Robinson down inside the box, but no penalty was given.

Play raged up the other end and at the end of a promising move for Accies, Alston set up sub Mickel Miller, but he blasted well over from a good position.

Hamilton took the lead in 84 minutes when Sam Stubbs launched a free kick into the box, Ogkmpoe went up for a header and was clattered by the keeper.

Sub Cunningham stepped up and rammed the penalty down the middle, as Stewart dived to his side.
