A Blantyre man has celebrated 25 years without a single sick day at a Hamilton superstore.
Key worker William Bell marked his milestone with Sainsbury’s on Friday, February 5.
As part of his long-service award the supermarket chain gifted him with a card and £500 worth of points to be spent at Argos or Sainsbury’s, which Wiliam is looking forward to spending on a new games console.
Remarkably, he has never had a sick day and has worked tirelessly every day of his shift pattern, even throughout the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 46-year-old, who attended Craighead School, works as the trolley and basket collector at the store and is out in hail, rain and snow bringing in the trolleys from the car park.
His job has seen him become a popular face with shoppers over the years, with William always keen to help and say hello to the customers.

William’s proud sisters Angela and Caroline told the Advertiser: “We would like to congratulate William on his 25 years’ service with Sainsbury’s Hamilton store.
“Not only has William worked right through the pandemic but he has never had a day off sick in all the years. We’re extremely proud of him and he’s an inspiration to us all.
“We cannot wait to be able to celebrate his milestone as a family when it is safe to do so and make a bit of a fuss of him.
“Well done William!”
