Hamilton stun Rangers: Accies talking points after shock win

There will be a few sores heads in Hamilton today after a famous win over Rangers last night.

But the sobering thought for fans is that it will all be for nothing if they can't kick on.

We look at some of the talking points after Accies' sensational result.

Smith shines

(SNS Group)

The 19-year-old winger caused Rangers problems and proved a nuisance on the occasion Accies managed to get forward.

Tracking back and then shrugging off Alfredo Morelos early in the first half, while using his pace and tenacity down the right to get his team forward, he showed his qualities at both ends.

He has struggled with a niggling knee injury, but Accies will be delighted to have him back fit and he looks like being a key figure for the run in.

After a top display again against the Light Blues, following goals in each of their previous two meetings, Smith showed impressive composure on a nerve-jangling night.

Want proving his worth

Shaun Want tussles with Morelos (SNS Group)

Shaun Want has found his way into the squad due to injuries, but he now looks like the most solid option at the back.

Last night he threw his body on the line to keep the Accies goal intact, saving Jamie Hamilton early on when Joe Aribo dropped the shoulder to ease past him into a goal scoring opportunity and snuffing out Alfredo Morelos on occasion.

One of the standouts from last night - a mention also goes to Marios Ogkmpoe for giving George Edmundson a torrid time - Rice will want to keep him in the line-up for Saturday's Kilmarnock clash.

Now or never for Accies

Moyo celebrates in front of the Accies fans (SNS Group)

This has to be the catalyst for Accies' season. If they can't kick on after a result like this, it will be curtains for them in the Scottish Premiership.

There's no point pulling off a result like that to go and lose momentum in the very next game.

Accies haven't managed back-to-back league wins all season, but now they must get a run together.

It's vital for their survival that they start this weekend against Kilmarnock.
