Hamilton street to be closed for five months for essential works

A street in Hamilton is to be closed off to traffic for five months to allow essential works to be carried out.

Scottish Water is carrying out works to upgrade its sewer infrastructure in the town.

The £1.1m investment project to help prevent sewer flooding in Lilybank Street began on Monday, July 15 and involves the upsizing of sewers in the area.

To enable the work to take place, road traffic management has been agreed in conjunction with South Lanarkshire Council.

From Monday, August 16, Lilybank Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for around five months.

Drivers are urged to follow diversions in place.

Full pedestrian access will be maintained during this time.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs manager for the west area, said:“This work in Lilybank Street will help tackle historical sewer flooding issues and protect the local environment. Flooding can cause a great deal of upset and disruption for residents so, once complete, the project will greatly benefit the area.”

He added: “We thank affected customers and road users in advance for their patience and understanding and can assure them that any short-term inconvenience in terms of the necessary road traffic management will be far out-weighed by the long-term benefits this investment will deliver for the affected properties.”

Alliance partners amey Black and Veatch (aBV) are carrying out the work on behalf of Scottish Water.
