Hamilton star Scott Martin ends injury nightmare, but in Accies defeat

Hamilton's 3-0 defeat at home to Raith Rovers was a bittersweet moment for midfielder Scott Martin, who made his comeback after seven months on the side-lines.

The 24-year-old climbed off the bench to replace Ronan Hughes in 56 minutes of what was a heavy defeat, but had daughter Lillie watching on for the first time.

While not at all happy with the outcome of the game, Martin says it's good to be back after such a long time in the treatment room, a spell in which head coach Brian Rice stepped down and was replaced by Stuart Taylor.

Former Hibs and Celtic youth player Martin said: "I was out for seven months. It was very frustrating.

"I picked up an injury towards the end of last season, and then recovered from that, but four days into pre-season I got another one.

"It has been frustrating, but I'm glad to be back amongst the boys, and back on the pitch.

"I've been itching to get back as quickly as I can. There have been a couple of set-backs and it's not nice watching it from the stand and having no effect on it, so I'm just buzzing to get back and hopefully I can help the team as much as I can.

"It was a massive relief to get back on the pitch, it's another step in the right direction, hopefully, and my wee girl Lillie was here for the first time so on a personal level that was a proud moment."

On the defeat, with Kieran MacDonald scoring a fifth-minute own-goal before Ethan Ross helped himself to a double, Martin said: "In the first half, I think everybody could see it wasn't good enough.

"In the second half there was a reaction, but we need to start showing a good account of ourselves in every game, in every half.

"We need to come in and sort it out.

"We need to start picking up results, and the boys certainly want to do to that."
