Hamilton sign striker Tunde Owolabi ahead of Celtic opener

Hamilton Accies have signed highly-rated striker Tunde Owolabli after a successful trial at New Douglas Park.

Accies gaffer Brian Rice told Lanarkshire Live Sport on Tuesday he was hoping to tie up a deal for the Nigerian-born forward and Owolabi has now put pen to paper to become the club's fourth signing of the summer.

His move follows the arrival of striker Callum Smith and midfielders Ross Callachan and Charlie Trafford.

Owolabi, who scored 35 goals for FC United of Manchester in the Northern Premier League last season, will go straight into the squad for Sunday's opener away to Celtic.

He told Accies TV: “I’m overwhelmed, it was always my dream to be a professional football player and I have worked really hard to get here.

"It hasn’t sunk in yet but I’m just trying to enjoy the experience.

“I’m a striker who is quick, I can score goals and run in behind. I try my best in games to help the team."

On the prospect of facing Celtic this weekend he added: "Its a whole new experience but its something I live for.

"Being a pro and playing against Celtic and Rangers wasn’t something I expected to come this quickly but it’s here now and I just have to work hard and enjoy it to push myself to get into the team.”

The 24-year-old was crowned the Northern Premier League Player of The Season last term and the striker believes his non-league background has prepared him for the step up to professional football.

He said: “Non-league is tough, you play against players who are physically strong and I had to get used to that quickly and I think that has prepared me for this level.”

Fellow trialists Justin Johnson and Hakeem Odoffin, who play on the wing and right-back respectively, are expected to follow in the coming days.
