Hamilton shopkeeper 'badly shaken' after man threatens him and demands money

Detectives are appealing for information following an incident in a Hamilton shop.

A man entered the premises, threatened the shopkeeper and demanded money.

The shopkeeper was uninjured but was left badly shaken by the incident that happened around 3.35pm on Monday, March 1.

It happened in a convenience store between Glasgow Road and Hamilton Road at around 3.25pm on Monday, March 1.

The suspect ran off empty-handed onto Glasgow Road in the direction of Purdie Street in Burnbank.

Police are now appealing to the public for information in their hunt for him.

His is described as white, tall, with a slim build. He was wearing black or dark coloured jeans, black or dark coloured new balance trainers, with the distinctive white N on the sides. He was also carrying a black rucksack.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed the suspect came from Glenlee Street onto Glasgow Road.

Officers have been checking for relevant CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

Detective Constable Steven Totten said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to think back, maybe you saw the man run off after the crime or maybe you saw him before committing the crime.

“Any small piece of information could be vital to our investigation.

“I would also ask motorists with dash cams to check their footage as they may have captured an image of the man which could assist our enquiries.”
