Hamilton shop assistant hailed as 'wee gem' after paying for customer's shopping

A big-hearted shop assistant has been hailed for her generosity after she stepped in to cover the cost of a customer's shopping.

Julie, who works at the Aldi store in Hamilton, came to the rescue when the lady's card was declined at the till.

She discreetly paid for the lady's groceries out of her own pocket - and only asked that the customer pass on an act of kindness of her own.

Aldi took to Facebook to praise their kinhearted employee, calling her a "wee gem".

The post on social media read: "When a customer's card was declined twice at our Hamilton store a few weeks ago, Store Assistant Julie quietly told the lady that she would cover the cost of her shopping.

"When she offered to come back and pay later, Julie refused and simply told her to pass on an act of kindness of her own. When the customer got in touch with us to express her gratitude, we were blown away and we knew we just had to take a moment to celebrate another of our #EveryDayAmazing colleagues.

"Julie, you're a wee gem."
