A brave Hamilton girl shaved her hair off for charity in front of all of her fellow school pupils.
Neilsland Primary pupil Peighton Gibson was inspired to ‘brave the shave’ for Macmillan Cancer Care and Marie Curie in memory of her great grandfather Watson Brunton, who passed away from lung cancer in 2015.
Peighton, 10, was just five years old when he died, but vividly remembers the Macmillan nurses visiting the house to look after her mum’s beloved grandfather.
And so far her fantastic effort has raised over £500 for the Macmillan charity via her JustGiving page, plus another £129 cash for Marie Curie.
Peighton’s proud mum Aimee Gibson told the Advertiser: “Shaving your hair off is immensely brave and we are all so proud of Peighton for doing such a thing – especially for doing it at school in front of the pupils and staff at assembly.
“Macmillan and Marie Curie were the two charities who really helped make my grandfather more comfortable in his last few weeks and days, and they were a great support to our family as well.
“Peighton always remembers the nurses coming out to help the family look after him and that is why she wanted to raise some funds for these wonderful charities.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Peighton including Neilsland Primary School, my mum Lesley, my aunt Jillian and cousin Morgan and my friend Anna with her three daughters Molly, Myla and Marci, who were all at the school to see her go under the clippers as such!
“And a big thank you to Siobhan Linden too, who actually carried out the head-shaving task.”
