Hamilton's Stewart Anderson becomes world bowls champion

Hamilton’s Stewart Anderson has been crowned World Indoor Bowling Champion for 2019.

The accolade means the Blantyre Indoor Bowling Club bowler is number one in the world for the season.

Stewart beat qualifier Simon Skelton at Potters Leisure resort in Great Yarmouth by 2-1 in a nail-biting final that included a tie-break decider.

The Hamilton man had earlier beaten  Les Gillet, reigning champion Mark Dawes, Jamie Chesney and Colin Walker.

That was Stewart’s second world title, having won it earlier  in 2013, and he is an international in both indoor and outdoor bowls.

Earlier in the season, Stewart won the Scottish International Open in Perth, beating Alex Marshall and Paul Foster on the way.

Stewart recently became match secretary at Eddlewood Bowling Club and will officiate at their opening day on Saturday, April 13.

He is back on his travels on Saturday, April 8, to defend his International Indoor Bowls Council trophy in England, a tournament that brings in bowlers from all over the world.
