Hamilton Rugby Club youngsters progress to Scotland Under-16 programme

Three young Hamilton Rugby Club players have progressed to the Scotland Under-16 national programme after impressing with Glasgow Warriors.

Euan Brannan, Callum Ferrie and Aaron Burgess have been rewarded for their fine form this season.

Jamie Thorpe from the under-16s team didn’t progress through to the National squads, having been hampered with a hamstring injury, but may get a chance later on.

A Hamilton Rugby Club spokesperson said: “The Scotland Under-16 programme is a pivotal stage in the development of young players, and will hopefully see them participate in a regional age-grade combined tournament in April, which is held at various locations across Wales.”

Following the tournament, a squad will be selected to travel to a two-week summer training camp in Valladolid, Spain.

Hamilton Rugby Club development officer Steven Meenagh said: “We are all incredibly proud of the boys’ achievements so far.

“At Hamilton we work hard to give all players the opportunity to hit their full potential.

“It’s a testament to the boys’ hard work and the hard work and commitment from their coaches.”
