Hamilton Rugby Club say they're 'back in business'

Hamilton Rugby Club say they're returning to 'a bit of normality' after successfully opening up their Laigh Bent ground to both rugby and hospitality business.

In a post to members, club president Ross Whiteside thanked staff and volunteers for the hours they have put in, undertaking a "massive number of tasks" in order to get the club 'back in business'.

But he said it's now up to club members to keep themselves and others safe if they are visiting Laigh Bent.

Whiteside said: "I am delighted to say that we have just successfully concluded our first weekend of having the club open for both rugby and hospitality business. We are starting to get back to a bit of normality, although visibly different to reflect the current environment.

"I want to thank our staff and volunteers for the many hundreds of hours they have put in to make this happen. To set Hamilton Rugby Club up to be the safest club in Scotland and follow all the government legislation, there has been a massive number of tasks to undertake.

"While there have been too many people to name individually, I am going to single out one person who guided us through this process. Alan Clisby, a previous secretary of the club, used his professional skills to ensure that no corners were cut, and wrote a fifteen-page risk assessment and check list, creating the job list that had to be completed before we could open.

"Alan was asked to deliver a model of best practice to all the clubs in Scotland via one of their Covid Webinars."

Whiteside added: "Having gone to the effort of making both our rugby and our bar safe, it is now over to you as club users.

"The processes that we have put in place, are there to keep you, your fellow members, and your family safe. On behalf of all the volunteers and staff that did not take a single shortcut in the preparation for the club opening, can I ask that you please ensure that you do not take any shortcuts when you visit the club.

"We know that habits are hard to break and we know that the experience will be different, but we all want rugby and full hospitality back and that can only happen if we work together to supress the virus.

"In the meantime, lets enjoy what we have and try to support your club by booking a slot for a socially distanced drink or by ensuring you, or your child gets back to rugby training.

"We have no surety yet when games will re-commence but we can use this time to make sure that we are fighting fit and ready to go when we can finally get back to games of rugby.

"Most importantly please do not drop your guard and make sure that you stay safe."
