Hamilton Rugby Club fundraising to aid tour of Highlands

Hamilton Rugby Club are holding a race night to help pay for their annual P7s tour of the Highlands.

The Laigh Bent club plan to take their entire primary seven section up to Inverness in May for a weekend that will see them take part in training and activities, outdoor education activities and games, working alongside Highland Rugby Club.

It will cost £6000 in total to pay for the weekend, and they’re looking for help with that.

The club are also reaching out for a tracksuit sponsor for the P7s, with a logo displayed prominently for the rest of the season.

The race night takes place at Hamilton Rugby Club on Friday, February 28, and starts at 7pm.

Entry is £5, which includes a first bet, and the club are looking for race sponsors at £25 per race.

P7s manager Ali Anderson said: “We’re taking away every P7 player, and it’s almost like a graduation from mini to midi level.

“That gives them an opportunity to move on, things become a little bit more competitive, and this trip helps to solidify that with them working together for fun.

“It teaches them that if they want something they have to work hard for it.

“It also encourages the parents to work together as a team and the whole team ethos, even something as simple as car sharing.

“We head up on the Friday afternoon to Highland, where there will be training and activities, on Saturday will be outdoor education activities, and there are usually three or four games on the Sunday.

“It shows the kids what you can get from sport, and there’s a real community feel about it all.”
