Hamilton Rugby Club admit they may need financial help during shutdown

Hamilton Rugby Club have admitted they face a financial struggle during the coronavirus outbreak that might result in them seeking aid from the government.

Scottish Rugby has declared a shutdown of all rugby activity and have scrapped the league season.

In a newsletter issued to supporters, club president has asked for donations to help them through troubled times.

He said: "Financially, this time will be a struggle for the club with no income at all coming in. Please be assured that the committee and staff are working hard on cash-flow projections and looking at the correct financial funding available from the Government, South Lanarkshire Council and the SRU.

"We have had a very serious look at what we can switch off in terms of overheads as the club is shut, and what savings can be made in other areas. Once we have a more accurate view then we will update you.

"Suffice to say this will be a struggle for the club but be assured that no stone is being left un-turned.

"I have had a few, very kind offers from members of the club who are donating the money they would habitually spend at the club in a week."

The club then provide a link on their website which will help supporters make donations.

The newsletter continued: "So just a small update on what is happening at Hamilton Rugby Club and we will periodically keep you updated on your club as we all go through this together.

"The important thing is that you all keep yourself and your family safe and remember to ask your Club if there is anything at all that you need help with, as I am sure, that as a club we can help!"
