Hamilton restaurant Di Maggio's closes its doors after over 20 years

A long-standing Hamilton restaurant has closed its doors.

The town’s Di Maggio’s has shut after more than 20 years.

Speculation grew on social media sites over the past few weeks, with many customers wondering about its fate.

Many believed it was closed for refurbishment, while others believed that it had closed for good.

However the Advertiser can confirm this week that the Gateside Street restaurant has now closed for good.

A spokesperson for Di Maggio’s said: “Unfortunately we have been left with no option but to close the Hamilton restaurant after several years of disappointing performance, despite changes in staff and menus.

“The restaurant has not been profitable for some time and we have been effectively subsiding it for a couple of years, but we had to make the decision to close.

“The majority of staff were offered alternative roles at our East Kilbride and Glasgow city centre venues, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers in Hamilton for all of their support over the years.”

The Advertiser understands that another Glasgow-based restaurant name is interested in taking over the empty building, however the firm said that they were unable to discuss this further at the present time.
