Hamilton pupils raise £555 for St Andrew's Hospice

Youngsters at a Lanarkshire primary school have completed a phenomenal fundraising drive for St Andrew’s Hospice.

A total of £555 was raised through a sponsored Teddy Bear’s Picnic at St Peter’s Primary School in Hamilton, where children from P1 and P2 came together for the cause.

The school wanted to help the Hospice at this difficult time after events to raise money for the charity have become much harder to organise due to the pandemic.

The two classes involved from St Peter’s were P1 and a P1/2 composite class where 34 pupils brought in their generous donations from family members and friends.

Headteacher Emma Kerr was blown away by everybody’s kindness and the total money raised. She told Lanarkshire Live: “We had seen that St Andrew’s Hospice were looking for people to do events to help them with fundraising.

“When we saw the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, our Primary 1 and 2 teachers were very keen to get involved in that.

“We held the picnics on two separate days. The children were given sponsor forms and we got some very generous donations.

“There’s only 34 children between the two classes in total so the amount raised was fantastic.

“They brought their own teddy bears in and we held them outside as the weather was lovely so it went really well.”

Representatives from St Andrew’s Hospice came along to the school the following week to thank the Hamilton pupils for their amazing efforts, where they were presented with a cheque.

Emma added: “Everybody did so well, I think it’s amazing to help this charity and the work they do, especially at this time.

“They help families who go through a tough time and because their fundraising has been affected by the current restrictions, it’s been great we’ve been able to help with that.”
