Hamilton on the relegation brink after Ross County defeat as perennial survivors set to crash out of the Premiership

Struggling Hamilton are on the verge of being relegated rom the Premiership after a seven-year top flight stay.

The New Douglas Park side have always found a way to escape the drop after their promotion from Championship for the first time since 2014.

However, it was a step to far this season for Brian Rice 's men as defeat to Ross County in the Highlands confirmed they would need a miracle to escape 12th spot.

Scott McMann's opener was cancelled out by goals from Blair Spittal and Charlie Lakin in the Highlands.

Relegation rivals Kilmarnock 's dramatic 3-3 draw with St Mirren means the Lanarkshire side would need a massive goal swing in their end of season clash with Tommy Wright's side.

To reach the play-off Rice's side would need an 18-goal turnaround in what would be a unbelievable afternoon for the club.

It would mean beating Killie by nine clear goals, such is the goal difference advantage the Ayrshire side enjoy.

However, the most likely scenario is that the club will be sent down the second tier.

It brings to an end the club's longest stay in the top flight ever if rubber stamped on Sunday afternoon.

It's good news for the Staggies who end the night two points clear of the dreaded play-off spot going into their clash with Motherwell on Sunday.

A win would be enough to ensure survival no matter what Killie do against Hamilton.
