Hamilton must capitalise when they're on top, says frustrated Guillaume Beuzelin

Guillaume Beuzelin cut a frustrated figure as Hamilton fought out a 1-1 draw with St Mirren at the Simple Digital Arena on Wednesday night.

With Hearts losing at home to Kilmarnock, and Accies leading 1-0 at the interval, it was a great chance to move clear of bottom spot in the Premiership; Ilkay Durmus sent a free kick into the top corner to equalise, and Accies compounded matters as Mickel Miller missed a late penalty.

David Templeton scored his first Accies goal following his re-signing, and Marios Ogkmpoe saw a terrific shot diverted onto the bar by keeper Vaclav Hladky, but it's that failure to capitalise on chances that is annoying the Frenchman.

Beuzy said: "if you think like this it's a fair result, but when you look at the first-half performance we did very well, defensively and offensively - but we didn't score the second, which is crucial in this league.

"We need to capitalise when we're on top - it was the same in the Hibs game - if you don't score the second you never feel safe about a deflection, or a goal from a set-piece, and that's what happened.

"Fair play to Durmus, it's a great free kick into the top corner, but we had a penalty that could have been a massive turning point in that game, and our season, but it was not meant to be, so we go again.

"We're disappointed in the dressing room, but there were positive aspects, especially in the first half."

Hamilton now turn their attention to a William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round clash at home to Rangers on Saturday, followed by a visit by Aberdeen on Tuesday, and a trip to Hearts the following weekend.

Beuzelin hopes Hamilton can create a bit of history, just by progressing in the competition, regardless of the opposition.

"It's a different competition," he said. "The main focus is the league, but it's a great competition and we know in the past that we haven't done well in that cup, so we're going to give everything to have a chance of going into the next round.

"The games are coming thick and fast, but we have a big squad, so I'm sure the manager will use that. He has plenty of options to rotate the squad."
