Hamilton Marie Curie group celebrate first birthday

There were celebrations galore as Hamilton’s Marie Curie Fundraising Group enjoyed their first birthday last weekend.

Group members gathered to celebrate with some cake while also planning their next fundraising event.

During the last year, the group have raised over £4000 by hosting events such as coffee mornings and afternoon teas, or indeed fundraising in local supermarkets - all of which have received fantastic support from the people of Hamilton.

All money raised by the Hamilton Fundraising Group allows Marie Curie to provide expert care, guidance and support to help people with a terminal illness, and their families, get the most from the time they have left.

Locally, Marie Curie Nurses work night and day, in people’s homes across South Lanarkshire, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support. Last year there were 1567 visits made by Marie Curie nurses in the region.

Gwen Moir from the Hamilton Fundraising Group said: “I was a fundraiser for Marie Curie for several years before joining the newly- formed group. Belonging to the local group brings together like-minded people with a dedicated focus on raising much-needed money for the excellent care Marie Curie provide in the community for all ages that require terminal care.”
