Hamilton hero happy at Livingston but admits managerial dream is ultimate goal amid Morton rumours

Dougie Imrie is happy to learn his trade at Livingston - but the Hamilton legend insists he's eyeing up a role as a boss in the future.

The former winger started his coaching career at Hamilton under Brian Rice after his retirement from playing, and moved to Livingston this summer.

He's part of the senior coaching staff at the Lions with boss David Martindale and assistant manager Marvin Bartley.

Imrie is also helping rebuild Livingston's youth academy and opened the door for open trials in West Lothian.

This week, the Livingston coach has been linked to the vacant manager's role at former club Greenock Morton, who have sacked Gus MacPherson. The Ton sit eighth in the Championship, while Accies sit sixth.

Speaking on the fifth episode of the Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast , Imrie said of his ambition: "I would love to be a manager one day in my own right. I had a good learning curve under Brian Rice. He's a fantastic coach.

"And I am now getting that same learning experience off David Martindale. He's also a fantastic coach and I am learning more about the game myself.

"I am taking everything in and trying to soak up as much as I can for the day when I get the opportunity to become a manager, or when I think the time is right for me to take that step in my career.

"I do have aspirations to be my own person and in my head I have an idea of how I would like to play. I have an idea of how I would like to set my teams up.

"I am really happy here at Livingston though, where I am learning every day. There's a good staff group and we can all bounce things off each other.

"David's great with me and so is Marvin. But I would like to become a manager one day."
