Hamilton head coach Brian Rice says Premiership safety is in their own hands

Hamilton head coach Brian Rice says had he been offered a four-point gap over St Mirren, and Dundee relegated with two games to go, he would have taken it as he came into the job.

Rice says Accies are in a good position as they head for a vital clash with St Mirren in Paisley on Monday, and knows that a draw or better will see them over the line.

He said: “We’ve got a four-point gap now, it’s in our own hands.

“When I came in the door, if we had said with two games to go we would be in this position, we would probably have taken it.

“The St Mirren game is very important now. There are only two games to go. I said to the boys after the Dundee game that there isn’t too much celebrating, not too much jumping about.

“The season is not finished, we have two big games to go, our total focus immediately after the Dundee win is rest, recovery and repair.”

Rice was pleased with the win at Dens Park and said: “Great credit to the boys, they fought for every ball. In the second half they played some great stuff, it was just that wee bit of quality in the final third that was lacking a little bit.

“It was tense in the first half but I didn’t feel under that much pressure, if I’m being honest. I thought we were in control of it. I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game, and we sent the fans home happy.”
