Hamilton Gymnastics Club youngsters excel in 'Classic Challenge' competition

Hamilton Gymnastics Club’s youngest gymnasts returned from the Classic Challenge Scottish Championships Zinc Division in Perth with four medals and a number of placings.

The youngsters were stepping onto the competitive floor for the first time at Bell’s Sports Centre on Saturday, October 30.

Hamilton’s nine-strong team returned with two all round Scottish champions at eight years in Lucy Brown, and Romona Woell at nine years.

Darcy Queen was second overall in the eight years category and Lacey Fawbert was pipped for third overall, but won a bronze for beam.

The girls added a number of placings on apparatus, too.

Head coach Ruth Gibson said: “Lockdown resulted in many of them missing out last year.

“Despite nerves, they performed amazingly.

“Overall, nine youngsters took part, and this is the start of many great things to come for them.”
