Hamilton Gymnastics Club take medals haul from major event

Hamilton Gymnastics Club’s women’s artistic gymnasts returned from the British Regional Classic Challenge in Surrey laden with medals.

The girls were part of the Scotland squad who competed against their GB neighbours.

At gold level, Abbie Nicholl and Katie Coull competed as individuals, with 17-year-old Abbie winning all-round gold.

Sixteen-year-old student Katie added two bronze medals on vault and floor, in addition to Abbie’s silvers for vault, bar and beam.

Nadia Callan and Erin Smith were part of the silver team for the club and they went on to finish in a commendable third place overall.

In addition to this, the individual apparatus scores were combined to establish the most successful team, which saw Scotland win the Bill McLoughlin Trophy, narrowly pipping rivals Wales to the title.

Proud head coach Ruth Gibson told Lanarkshire Live Sport: “This was the first major event for the girls since lockdown and they rose to the occasion with great precision and style.”
