Hamilton given coronavirus all-clear after St Mirren forced into lockdown following pre-season friendly

Hamilton have announced that none of their players have tested positive for coronavirus after facing St Mirren in a friendly.

The Buddies have gone into lockdown after seven coaching staff tested positive for COVID-19.

They're due to play Livingston on the opening day of the season on August 1, but that will depend on no players returning positive tests.

Brian Rice 's side faced off against the Saints on July 18 but have assured there have been no cases so far.

A statement said: "We believe St Mirren have returned seven positive COVID-19 tests.

Following the departure of the St Mirren squad on Saturday the area used was cleaned and disinfected. The location occupied by St Mirren was a segregated area at the far end of our stadium and is separate from the areas used by Hamilton Accies’ players and staff on a matchday. Subsequently on Monday, all players and backroom staff were tested with all results returned negative.

Hamilton Academical will continue to follow advice from the SFA/SPFL joint response group."

The positive tests for the Paisley club have forced the joint response group to mandate a return to twice-weekly testing.
