Hamilton fishmonger reels in customers with super-sized Haddock

It's unlikely this humungous haddock would fit in the fryer at your local chip shop.

It would definitely need a bumper portion of chips to go with it.

Hamilton fishmonger Alex Taylor landed the 18lb-plus whopper at a Glasgow market.

His son Alexander, who runs the family fish shop in Cadzow Street, said: "The guys at the market hadn't seen anything like it.

"Apparently it's the biggest haddock caught by a boat from a British port for at least 40 years.

"It was landed by a trawler in the North Atlantic. We were told it could have been up to 10 years old."

The fish took pride of place in the shop display before being divided into manageable portions.

Haddock usually weigh as little as 2lb.A 13lb 11oz fish caught off Cornwall in 1978 is the biggest haddock landed in British coastal waters.
