Hamilton East MP says Hamilton West's Margaret Ferrier 'should consider her position'

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley today  said Margaret Ferrier should consider her position.

It came shortly after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed she had told the under-fire Hamilton West MP that she should step down.

Ferrier stunned the country by releasing a statement on Thursday evening admitting she had breached Covid rules.

She travelled to London on Monday despite having taken a test and, after getting a positive result, travelled back to Scotland on the train on Tuesday.

Her statement was met with disbelief, with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon calling her actions “utterly indefensible”.

The SNP's Ms Crawley said: “Margaret’s actions were inexcusable.

“By ignoring the guidance, she put other people at risk.

“It was correct for her to be suspended from the party and she is now subject to a police investigation.

“It is with a heavy heart that also I think she should consider her position.”

Ferrier has been suspended from the SNP.
