Hamilton dominated the second half and deserved a draw against Saints, says Scott Martin

Scott Martin says Hamilton would have been kicking themselves had they lost to St Mirren on Saturday, and that they're going into the split on form that can keep them up.

Kyle Munro's late equaliser rescued a point in a 1-1 draw at home to St Mirren, but left Accies bottom of the Premiership table by a point.

Accies have lost just two of their last eight games, with a win and five draws in that sequence.

Martin, who conceded a penalty to allow Jamie McGrath to put the Buddies ahead, says the draw was merited, and hopes they can take that form into the final five fixtures.

He said: "I thought it was quite even to start with, the first half, and I think the penalty was the only thing that separated us.

"In the second half I thought we were by far the better team, so in hindsight probably the draw was the fair result.

"You could feel the tension and the intensity of the game was quite high. There was a lot of pressure on both teams, but it turned out to be a decent game, to be fair.

"I think we would have been kicking ourselves had we taken nothing from it, because in the second half we were dominating the full game.

"The only real time they were showing any sort of threat was on the break, which I felt we dealt all right with.

"I'm glad we took something from the game. Obviously we wanted the three points, but we should take the point and move on to the next game."

Hamilton have obviously been over the course in fighting relegation for several seasons, and Martin says he feels they have enough about them to stay in the top flight.

He said: "We've been in this situation before, we're definitely not out of it.

"I know we're not on winning form but we're not in losing form either, which is good to go into the split with.

"We've been here before, I've got every confidence in the lads and the staff that we've got enough to stay up, and if we don't there's going to be a bit of disappointment there.

"I hold my hands up for the penalty, it was silly by myself, but it's wee things like that, if we nullify that and turn them into wins, it's only going to be looking up."
