Hamilton disappointed by Partick draw after coping well with Covid chaos, says Andy Ryan

Andy Ryan says Hamilton are disappointed to only come away with a draw from their battling performance against Partick Thistle.

Covid issues have made things a bit chaotic at the club in the past week and although he insists that's what makes them coming from behind twice to draw 2-2 all the more impressive, a win was there for the taking.

Accies had five players missing through the virus and manager Stuart Taylor deployed centre-back Jamie Hamilton in a central midfield role, as his side couldn't fill the bench and were forced to change their shape.

So Ryan reckons the frustration in not pulling off a win with a makeshift setup shows the strides the squad are making.

The striker sparked the comeback with a penalty to make it 1-1 before Mihai Popescu grabbed the second leveller of the day with an acrobatic effort.

And he said: "It's been crazy [this past week].

"We had to change shape for this game, we've got players missing, you don't know who is going to be in training.

"It's difficult for the coaching team to try and plan sessions when you don't know who is going to be available.

"But that just shows you whatever team the gaffer picks, the boys are willing to go out there and work as hard as they can to try and get the win for each other.

"Jamie had to play midfield but he is more than capable in there. You see him when he steps out from the back, he's so comfortable on the ball and I don't see why he can't play in there if needed. He did well.

"I've played a few different positions myself this season.

"To see us go behind twice and show the courage and togetherness to come back just shows you how far we've come.

"Although we did go behind twice and get a point, a lot of the boys are disappointed.

"We felt we should have taken the three points. That says a lot."

Accies remain fifth in the Championship and are 11 points off the top four in their bid for a shot at promotion.

The club haven't managed back-to-back wins yet this season, but a good run of results could turn things around.

Accies have won three of their last six and lost just once.

Asked if the club were capable of reaching the play-offs, Ryan said: "I don't see why not. But we'll just keep doing what we've been doing in recent weeks, take it game by game and we'll start preparing for Dunfermline.

"We are certainly wanting to look up.

"I think you can see from our results in the last five or six matches that, although we are not there yet, we are a lot closer to where we want to be."
