Hamilton defender Johnny Hunt says they'll be ready for Betfred Cup games

Johnny Hunt says Hamilton are getting stronger all the time and should be ready for Saturday’s Betfred Cup Group F opener against Queen’s Park.

Left-back Hunt, 28, is one of several new faces at New Douglas Park this summer, but he feels that they’re ready for the challenge ahead.

He said: “We’ve still got a bit more to go, we have a couple of days to get ready for it, but the lads are getting more minutes in them now and I think, come Saturday, we will be there or thereabouts.

“We’re stronger just from having had games. The training sessions are being tailored so it’s football-based, a lot of fitness work in that sense, so we are getting up to scratch.

“Pre-season is important; you’re getting to know players, there are new players coming in, like myself, playing with the players who were here last season, working up little partnerships and getting a good team shape.”
