Hamilton dad pens his second children's book

A Hamilton dad has written his second children's book in just over a year.

Proud father-of-three Mark Mechan has released his latest illustrated colour book, Welly Boot Broth.

The paperback children's book was researched, drawn and written by Mark - a graphic artist of over 20 years who previously worked in the team that created the Maw Broon’s cookery series, and Beano and Dandy licensed products.

Mark’s books are inspired by his experiences as a dad to his three children and his latest tale of Welly Boot Broth tells the story of father and son working in the garden together to grow what they need to make a healthy, hearty broth. The story is set in present-day Scotland.

His first book, Tumshie, was published in 2020 and proved a huge hit with inspiration for the story coming from Halloween nights over the years with his own kids.

Mark told Lanarkshire Live: "I believe both adults and children will appreciate this simple story about a father and son enjoying time in the garden together with help from the family.

"It will certainly capture children’s imagination and encourage them to take an interest in the garden and to grow their own whilst also discovering wildlife outside and be more aware of how food is grown."

Welly Boot Broth is aimed at children aged five to seven and is available now, priced £7.99, from Waverly Books at https://www.waverley-books.co.uk/store/product/7_childrens/227_welly-boot-broth/
