Hamilton dad in weight-loss charity bid to help Macmillan Cancer Support

A big-hearted Hamilton care worker is powering through a lockdown fitness challenge to raise vital funds for charity.

Andrew Scott has already lost six stone and has lined up a final push to help Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 41-year-old dad-of-two has is determined to lose another four stone over the coming months.

Andrew felt if he could reach his goal and do something charities that are struggling to fundraise due to the pandemic, then it would all be worth it.

He said: “I love a challenge and when I spotted the ’40 days of fitness’ challenge I thought ‘why not?’

“It’s for a great cause. I know all about Macmillan Cancer Support. I work in the care sector so I always hear about how amazing Macmillan are. I also know that charities are struggling just now and they need as much funding as they can get.

“I have lost six stone in weight and my target is to lose another four, so this challenge is really keeping me on that path. I am a member of a local gym, Win Fitness Hamilton and they have changed all their classes to online so I have been doing them at least three times a week. They are a great bunch and have such a community spirit, they’re giving me lots of support and encouragement.

“My wife and kids keep me going too and I have built up a small gym in my garden shed, so it’s perfect for my workouts. I’m enjoying myself which is the main thing.”

Determined to keep going, Andrew will finish his 40 days of fitness on July 17. He said: “I haven’t decided how I will celebrate but I’ll think of something and probably finish with a big workout. I’ve raised over £400 so far – it would be great to reach the £500 mark.

“I’d encourage others to do something just now for charity, I’m really glad I’m doing this. It’s keeping me fit, driving me on and helping to raise funds for Macmillan at a time when they need help from all their supporters.”

Fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, Julia Perrie, said: “What Andrew has committed to doing is fantastic, he’s over the half-way mark and sticking to his challenge.

“I want to thank him for raising funds for Macmillan during this time when our fundraising has taken a considerable dip. He’s very inspiring and hopefully by doing this he’ll keep going with his fitness and set himself another challenge so he reaches his weight goal. Well done Andrew, we’re with you all the way.”
