Hamilton curry kings House of Shah set up food bank for the community

Hamilton takeaway House of Shah have again gone that extra mile for people within the community.

For the popular curry house has set up their very own daily food bank at the entrance to their Quarry Street premises.

And as well as allowing people to pop along and take away items they require, they are also happy to accept donations on the table also.

Jahan Shah, who runs the business, told the Advertiser: “We set up a foodbank at the doorway to the shop (from 3pm to 4pm daily) where people who are struggling, or pensioners, can come in and we give them tinned food, pasta packets etc, free of charge.

“We have been really shocked at the response. People are actually walking by and very  kindly dropping stuff off on the table for others, and people have also been coming to the door to say they’re heading to Asda and ask if we need anything in particular for people.

“So many people also just open the door and say we’re doing a great job. The support and the amount of people who are making donations is unbelievable.

“Even children are carefully coming in and giving food donations.

“It’s a great feeling knowing in such horrid times people are still helping others.”

Back in March the popular takeaway made a generous gesture to help out the vulnerable during the coronavirus outbreak.

They worked tirelessly to provide  essential items to those in need including issuing bags with a hand sanitiser, cleaning wipes and toilet roll – all free – to the elderly and disabled members of the Hamilton community.
