Hamilton councillor Davie McLachlan pipes Scotland the Brave during clap for key workers

As residents united last night (Thursday, April 2) in a rousing ‘clap for key workers,’ pipers around Scotland also joined in with the emotional thank you.

Playing the pipes in Hamilton’s Burnbank was local councillor Davie McLachlan.

On his doorstep, Davie piped out an emotional rendition of Scotland the Brave in honour of those fighting on the frontline against the coronavirus.

Davie said: “I joined Stonehouse Pipe Band last year as a beginner and learned some tunes on the practice chanter, and the band tutor put me on pipes a few weeks ago.

“I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m loving it.”

Those who could hear Davie’s tribute on the pipes thought it was amazing.

Angie McGill posted: “Absolutely first class!”

Lanarkshire residents joined the rest of the UK to once again applaud the country’s key workers last night at 8pm.

Following the success of last week’s ‘Clap for carers’ campaign, the public were urged to take to their windows, balconies or doorways at 8pm to show their appreciation for all the key workers who are keeping the country running throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Last night’s applause honoured teachers, cleaners, supermarket workers and delivery drivers – as well as the NHS staff who are working around the clock.
