Hamilton could be 'down to bare bones' for Livingston clash amid surgery fear for star

Hamilton Accies have major concerns regarding the fitness of key players ahead of Saturday's trip to Livingston - and one star could require surgery.

Gaffer Brian Rice fears his charges could be "down to the bare bones" with skipper Brian Easton hobbling off against Aberdeen and attacker Andy Winter could face surgery after a knee injury sustained in the warm-up of Saturday's 0-0 draw.

Winger Nathan Thomas, who made his first start against after return from an ankle injury against the Dons, is also a huge worry for Rice.

He said: "It's been a poor weekend injury-wise and Nathan Thomas will get a scan today.

"We'll probably get the scan results back today or tomorrow.

"Andy Winter broke down in the warm-up on Saturday, his knee buckled a bit, so he's away for a scan on his knee.

"It could be a wee cartilage problem with the symptoms he's showing, but we'll need to wait to get to the bottom of it.

"Andy might need an operation and for Nathan it's the same ankle that he was out with for a couple of months, so that's not looking too good.

"But I'm hopeful Easty's isn't as bad as first feared.

"If those three are out - and with Marios already out - we'd be down to the bare bones again."

Accies are just a point clear of Kilmarnock at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table, but they could climb to 10th if Ross County lose to Hibernian.

Saturday's trip to West Lothian is Hamilton's game in hand over Killie - the initial attempt to play the match fell foul to eight inches of snow last month - so they will be desperate to put more distance between themselves and Tommy Wright's men.

On their last visit to the Tony Macaroni Arena Accies ran out 2-1 winners in September thanks to a Kyle Munro winner, but many members of that side have been ruled out through injury this season or, in the case of Will Collar, moved on.

Rice said: "It will be a completely different team to the last time we played them there.

"David Templeton is out for the season. Marios [Ogkmpoe] could still be 4-6 weeks away, the same for Lewis Smith.

"But let's get all hands on deck and whoever comes in will do their bit.

"We need to keep above Kilmarnock. We jumped above them on Saturday and the aim is to keep it that way.

"The next thing is to go and catch Ros County and putting pressure on them is the next thing we are aiming for."
