Long-time Hamilton Accies owner Ronnie MacDonald has confirmed he will transfer his controlling interest in the club to chief executive Colin McGowan this week.
Lanarkshire Live exclusively revealed earlier this week that McGowan was set to take charge at Hamilton as interest in buying out the club from further afield persists.
Parties in America, Cyprus, and the middle east are said to be interested in buying Hamilton, who are seventh in the Scottish Championship.
MacDonald told the Scottish Sun : “Colin has been my colleague for a long time and the decision as to what happens next at the club will be his.
“You want to be in a position where you trust the people involved — and in Colin I certainly do.”
MacDonald brought McGowan to Accies in February 2005. His work since has mainly focused on social initiatives, including addiction services for alcohol, drugs, gambling and over-eating.
McGowan was with Raith Rovers as a director prior to joining Hamilton. It is understood any takeover would not be completed before the end of the current season.
Accies were bought by MacDonald in June 2003 for £1 — but he also inherited debts of £5.3m.
