Hamilton care home residents enjoy time with a therapy puppy

Residents at a Hamilton care home have been allowed a special visitor.

HC-One’s Douglas View care home welcomed Shire, a therapy puppy.

And the residents spent lots of time with the pooch, giving him cuddles and taking him for little walks.

Shire visited on August 18 and everyone at Douglas View was over the moon to meet their new fluffy-faced friend.

They can’t wait to spend lots more time with Shire and take him for lots of walks around the home’s garden.

Residents Denis and Catherine enjoyed spending time with Shire to help break up their day.

“What a lovely wee dog,” Denis said.

Shire will continue to visit Douglas View every week and hopefully build up an amazing relationship with everyone.

Douglas View Resident Catherine added: “It was so lovely to see the wee dog and take him for a walk. I can’t wait for him to come back.”

Shire is really important for residents as pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve cardiovascular health.

Douglas View home manager Lyndsey Barnes said: “It was great to see smiles light up our residents’ faces after a difficult few months.”
